Hurricane Harvey Lauren Arter

Hello,

As most of you know, Hurricane Harvey drastically affected Houston and its surrounding areas. My best friend Lauren Arter and her husband Alex Arter recently moved to Port Arthur, Texas a few weeks ago.

Harvey didn't hit Port Arthur until Tuesday evening, following into Wednesday afternoon. Alex was called to duty (Coast Guard) so Lauren was home alone with her dog, Rajah. She got a knock on her door Wednesday afternoon from the Coast Guard telling her to evacuate immediately. She wasn't allowed to bring anything with her, not even contacts. Both her and her dog rajah were rushed out immediately onto a boat and into a shelter in Nederland, Texas.

She was immediately evacuated because the dam began to overflow and they had to release it. The Coast Guard warned her the water would rise by 8 feet and would eventually hit the second floor or above (she lives on the second floor). All the apartments beneath hers were completely flooded and damaged. She has already lost her car as it's completely underwater now and already had a lot of water damage in her ceiling prior to the dam being released. I can only imagine the damage that's done now. She isn't sure of when she'll be able to return to work either since the entire area is affected. She was forced to leave everything behind and has been alone with her dog Rajah since.

Her mom is driving down to Texas from Virginia next week to pick her up and take her home until things subside. If you can help out in any way possible, please do. Even if it's a few dollars, every donation counts as Lauren has lost almost everything and could be more she won't know until she's allowed to return and we don't know when that will be.

Could you imagine losing everything due to a hurricane? Not having a place to call home and your car completely gone? It's completely devastating.
