HurricaneHarvey Diaz Daycare Relief

Donation protected

My name is Lydia Miranda from Houston, TX. I am trying to raise money for my parents, Miguel and Lydia Diaz, who lost their home and business in Hurricane Harvey.

My parents' home is located in the Sagemont community, a neighborhood in Southeast Houston that was hit particularly hard by flood-waters this weekend. Late Friday night/early Saturday morning, they awoke to nearly 2 feet of water in their modest one-story home. They did not have time to save most of their possessions, and lost their only car, all furniture, appliances, electronics and, worst of all, many family photos and heirlooms.

The situation is particularly painful because my parents also use their home to run a small childcare business (Mrs. Lydia's Home Daycare). They lost all their furniture, supplies, and materials for the daycare, including playpens, toys, books, changing table, art supplies, sleeping mats, blankets, etc.

The children in the pictures you see here are just of a few of the little ones my parents care for on a regular basis. My mom and dad love all of these kids like family, but because of the extensive flood damage, the daycare will have to be closed for repairs. As a result, all of the daycare parents will have to make other childcare arrangements, and my parents will be without a source of income for the foreseeable future.

We are seeking financial support to help replace lost income for my parents while their daycare is closed for repairs. They have a small amount of savings available to tide them over for a few weeks, but not enough to last the time that it will take to reopen the daycare. Your donations will replace lost income and assistance replacing flood damaged contents not covered by insurance.

My parents are currently staying with me until their home is repaired to livable condition. I will be setting them up as a beneficiary to this GoFundMe account so they can withdrawal funds directly as they need them. My parents are not super computer-savvy, so I am handling the GoFundMe, but they will manage the actual funds.

We have been so touched to see the outpouring of support and neighborly love in our community. My parents are 'Texas Tough,' and, like many others, they will rely on faith to get them through this difficult time. But even the strongest among us need help sometimes, and it would mean so much to us to receive your support.
