Hurricane Harvey Destroyed Home

Two years ago, my best friend lost nearly everything in a flood at her home in Houston. They fought their way through all kinds of red tape, by repairing and replacing everything (down to the foundation!!) Although the disaster put them into bankruptcy, they were getting back on their feet, just this year. Enter Hurricane Harvey.
They did not evacuate, they wanted to protect their home and all they had just rebuilt. It was almost midnight and the storm had been pounding on them for a while when they decided to evacuate, as the drains and sewers had backed up and the flooding in their house began again. (Yes, raw sewage flooded in their home).

When this happened before, it was just their street, in their neighborhood, but it still took FEMA three weeks to send someone out. (Mold spores start growing within 24 hours). There are a lot more people in need of help this time, so one can only imagine how long it will take for someone to come out.

If you can, please consider helping so they can start over. They need help with immediate assistance, such as living expenses while they search for a temporary place to stay (preferably that allows pets) or otherwise animal boarding is another pricey expense. They will need help finding a new home, because they do not want to endure this situation again. The furniture will need to be replaced, as they had just replaced everything after the last flood, and have now lost it again.

I'm starting the goal at $5000 to help with immediate expenses for a couple of months. I'll plan to adjust this amount based on what the families needs are.

For those who don't know me, my name is Jenn. I have been best friends with Joni, and have known her and her husband Rey since we were all 12 years old. We all grew up in San Diego together. (In fact, Rey is the person who introduced me to my husband!)

The money raised here will go towards interim expenses to help them while they're displaced. Hotel expenses, animal boarding, groceries, gas, etc for every day cost of living. Money will be transferred electronically to Joni or I will set up a way for her to receive it directly from this campaign. ( this is my first GoFundMe campaign, so I have no clue what I'm doing! LOL...) I just knew that I needed to help by doing something, since it is so hard to watch someone you love dealing with something so difficult so many miles away.
