Hurricane Florence - Pat Huners

My Aunt, former Glen Cove, NY native Pat Huners was riding out Hurricane Florence from her home in Newport, NC in a home that has never seen flooding. If you don't know, Newport, NC is near Morehead City, NC. Her home was near Croatan National Forest near the Newport River. Her friend Vinny was helping her prep for the storm and staying there so she would not be alone. His wife was staying with another friend to ride out the storm as well. Everything seemed to be going okay. The storm didn't seem too bad at all. Then on Friday, the water started coming through the walls and up out of the sink and the toilet. They grabbed some things and the cat. By the time they were outside they were in water up to their neck. Luckily, Aunt Pat had her friend as she doesn't think she would have made it otherwise. They made it to a neighbor's house along with some others. Later that night the roof caved in and they left again. Aunt Pat is alive. She is safe and staying with neighbors and friends. Her home was destroyed and full of mold and she cannot live there now. She is homeless. She no longer has a car. She was given a rental car for one month. She no longer has everyday items. She no longer has mementos from the life including those from her husband Bob who died in 2005. She's applied for FEMA and other assistance. She owned her home out right. The insurance company is saying they cannot help. She doesn't have flood insurance. Thankfully she has friends and family. She now needs our help. Please donate what you can.
