Hurricane Dorian Relief for Higgs Family
Donation protected
My name is Gadareth Higgs and I am a native of Freeport, Grand Bahama which was decimated after hurricane Dorian sat over the island for over 18 hours and flooded most areas with a 20 ft storm surge and over 180 mph winds.
Our home, though well-built, was destroyed by flooding. My dad saved up for decades, and was extremely proud of what the house represented (a safe haven for his family). He lost over $50,000 worth of contents, not including service bills, installation fees, and structural damage to the home itself. We are concerned about how this will affect him, given he is now retired after suffering a stroke in 2012, and he spent almost all of his life’s savings building this home.
My siblings and I want to help my parents defray the cost of securing the home and replacing the lost items, which amount to over $50,000, and rebuilding. They cannot rely on their home insurance, since previous claims after the damages from Hurricane Matthew (2016) were not honored by the insurance company, and the scale of the disaster is so widespread that the Bahamian insurance companies will be overwhelmed and likely ineffective.
We greatly appreciate your assistance in helping my parents to rebuild their home, and get back on their feet. No amount is too big or small.
