Eady Hurricane Clean up

We are the Eady's. Thomas, Priscila, Mason and Jaxson and we are from Houma, Louisiana and now live in Spring, TX and like so many were effected by the hurricane.
Like most people from South Louisiana, we know how to prepare for a Hurricane. We thought that we were very fortunate because we survived the Houston record breaking flood (500 yr flood) of 2016 with no issue so we stayed home. We had our food stocked up, kids prepared with board games and flash lights and a little generator for the refrigerators. We were safe in riding it out.
However, as fate would have it, we were wrong because the rain kept falling and the creek kept rising. It rained non stop from August 24 - Aug 29 (today) with more to come. On August 28 @ 05:00 we wake to with power and water had flooded the streets and was rising in the yard. We made the decision based on the kids to leave and stay with friends to wait it out. We even went to help and check on friends in the area who were also preparing to leave due to flood water. Two of friends and I waded back numerous times to check on the house and neighbors. All appeared to be fine but Mother Nature had plans for the night.
Returned back early on Aug 29 to find that the water had gone down and was happy to see neighbors out assessing the flood damage. We assumed that we had no issues and when the power came on we would clean a few things and be back in the house in no time.
We were wrong because as we walked up we saw the the water line on the glass door. When we entered the house everything on be bottom floor was wet. Carpet with standing water, flooring buckled and debris scattered from floating in the water. We found the insurance paper work and made a few calls only to find out that the renewal policy for the flood insurance was never received and the policy was cancelled. (Note to everyone- when mailing in payments follow up with a phone call to ensure payment was received)
The wife and I were upset but thankful we were still blessed because we still have a home and our family was safe. Checked on the neighbors and then we packed a few things for work and the kids. Being blessed, we took the family to Krimmel Intermediate to volunteer some time to help collect and sort donations for the community.
We set this account up because we were told by friends that they wanted to help but we don't know what we will need. I am not asking for anyone to donate to us because I just want your money. If you donate, we thank you and want you to know we will post a list of things that the money will go to in helping my family recover. I will also tell you that if your donations can help other we will use every dime to help those around us and those who are here helping others as well.
I am thankful for God's blessings, love and support without him in our lives we would not be in such a blessed situation.
