Dear Pool Members:
We set up this GoFundMe account for a life saving device – an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
A few weeks ago, Dan and I were at a local children’s theater to see a performance of Beauty and the Beast. While waiting for the performance to start, we, as an ER nurse and paramedic, were called out to the lobby to help someone. Time seemed to stand still as I approached the 80 year old man lying on the floor in cardiac arrest. While starting CPR, we asked for an AED. Not even sure if the studio had an AED, it is part of basic training to call out for an AED and to call 911. After a few rounds of compressions and mouth-to-mouth, an AED was handed to us. After turning on the AED and applying the pads, we were directed by the AED to shock the man. After a shock and resumed chest compressions, just moments later, he began to move! He was brought to a local hospital and discharged that weekend without any permanent damage. We can say without a doubt that the AED saved his life. I am asking us as a community, a family, a team to gather together and purchase a similar device for our pool. A moment that can happen so quickly to any one of any age, without this AED, the outcome would have been drastically different.
I have reached out to various vendors for the best quote and options to fit our pool. For an AED that will best suit out pool, cost will be approximately $1,400. Please consider donating to a separate fund to help. The total amount needed is $1,700 to include GoFundMe costs and extra pads.
