On Thursday we heard the news that no parent wants to hear: Hunter Smith has Leukemia. He has B-ALL which is the most common type (Google it ) and is treatable. The whole process will take about 2 1/2 years. He will be in the hospital at Saint Luke’s Children’s hospital for about a week this round. He has had a couple blood transfusions and been getting platelets and will keep getting those as needed to get his hemoglobin and platelet numbers up. Unfortunately, no visitors are allowed while we are here. Once we get home, we will be able to have visitors but for obvious reasons, there will be precautions taken and patience will definitely be needed. I will update when that happens. We have an AMAZING support system and are getting thru this one day at a time. He is a strong kid and we are ready to kick leukemia’s ass!!! Thank you so much for all your thoughts and prayers this far! I will continue to update as I can and as things change.

4/19/2021- Unfortunately Hunter Smith didn’t hit the magic numbers the surgeon needed to put the port in today. So we are moving onto plan B which means he will have a PICC line in for the first month. Then his body should start making it’s own platelets and his port can be put in at that time. I will have another update later today after we get the results from the spinal tap. Thank you so much to everyone for your positive thoughts and well wishes for him!!!

I would also like to throw something out here in Facebook land. If you are looking for a phenomenal local charity to donate to, I would suggest the Ronald McDonald House Charity. They have given us a free very nice place to stay, provided all kinds of toiletries, free access to laundry and provide laundry products, snacks, and they even have homemade meals made for us & have local businesses that bring in lunches and dinners sometimes!! Pretty much anything and everything. They’ve also offered gas cards and food vouchers to us. The list goes on and on!! We will definitely be making some donations ourselves. Ok I’ll get off my soap box now.

I’ll update once we have the results from the spinal tap today.
