Hunter’s “Chance”

Donation protected
Hunter just turned 7 years old.  He was born with a rare genetic disease.   When he was diagnosed, he was the 12th child in the world to have this mutation.  With it being so rare there is no telling what the future holds for Hunter.  The hardest battle is his seizures.  We can not, as a family, easily relax because his seizures are so unpredictable.   On a good day he will have 1-3 seizures.  On a bad day he will have 20+ seizures in a short amount of time before we get them stopped with a lot of medication which sometimes includes a trip to the ER.

This is where Chance comes in.  When Chance is 8 weeks old he will begin training to be a seizure alert dog.  He will be able to notify us when Hunter has a seizure.  He will also be trained to assist in keeping Hunter safe during and after the seizure, pull his wheel chair, help carry things and a long list of other tasks.

Over the past 7 years, God has blessed us in so many ways.  I had all but given up on getting Hunter a service dog.  The cost of a fully trained service dog is very high.  But God had a plan already in place.   We were blessed that a wonderful breeder donated Hunter a puppy.  But we still have to pay for the 10 months of intense training.  We are asking for help to raise enough funds to pay for Chance to be trained.  This dog is "Hunter’s Chance" to have a more normal life.  A life with a little more independence and freedom to do things other families and kids get to do.   We can go to the park or school or even just being more than 5 feet away from mom and not having to be hooked up to monitors all the time.  Hopefully Chance will be able to help relieve stress from Hunter when out in public.  Stress is a known trigger for his seizures.
Most importantly this is "Hunter's Chance" to be more medically safe during seizures.  If we can have a warning that the seizure is about to happen, we can get ready for it.  Even if we are just alerted that he is having a seizure, we can be there faster to help him.   Chance can help the caregiver in times of an emergency when more than 2 hands are needed and not available.   This is a Chance of a lifetime for Hunter.

Thank you and God bless!
