I will be sharing a story with you that is close to home and tough to share. It's taking a lot for me to both share and ask for your help.
Last semester, I had a few experiences as an entirely financially independent student that put me into what seemed like a never-ending sorrow of lack of motivation and stress. Come March 2017, I was at an all-time low and I realized that I needed to focus on bettering myself and seeing things for how they could be instead of for how they are at the moment. After being unable to gain motivation to do anything, like class, work or maintain relationships, I had a hard time going to class or doing anything very productive. Come dead week, I knew it was too late to save myself this semester academically, I started planning for the future - focusing on better myself. I came across a Quicken Loans advertisement for summer interns. I applied, heard back promptly, went through the process, and got an internship to the company ranked #3 internship experiences by Fortune Magazine. I took this as an opportunity to step away, breathe and thrive! I decided, never having been to Detroit, Michigan or the Midwest in general, to leave California and pounce on the opportunity to work at their headquarters. The things I've learned this summer have been everlasting - personal and professional development especially. I have learned so much about myself and my path to success that it's a true shame that I didn't learn it earlier. However, I am confident that the circumstance will not occur again, due to the work ethic, and outlook on life and success I have not.
Unfortunately, the classes I missed while I was "not myself" dropped me. Because of that, I was treated as a withdraw student and the loans I took out for school and student housing (near $4000) have been REQUIRED to be paid back IN FULL before I am allowed to enroll for this semester – instead of paying them back after I finish school. I am being dismissed as a student if these funds aren't paid back by the new semester. It's just a tough situation, but it's the only thing inhibiting my success.
I was notified of this end of June 2017 when I decided something had to be done. . Not having nearly enough money to cover this entire cost as an financially independent student, I searched for opportunities and ways to make it work. As a result, I worked really well this summer and was able to land an AMAZING extension offer to work throughout the fall in order to pay this money back, get professional experience, and solidify the work ethic I've been working to achieve. I beatboxed on the street for money. I tutor Russian students for hours at 4am on workdays because really I need the money. This internship has changed myself and I promise with this help I will NEVER be as low as I was again, and with this help, I'm going to bounce back and conquer the world.
UNFORTUNATELY, since the time I decided to be an intern at a great company while paying my debts, I needed transportation. I was able to find a cheap car from a friends' dad. Long story short, I was driving 160 miles a day, the car became too costly. I had to get rid of it, move closer to work and couch surf at a friend's apartment. As time runs out, I did not anticipate so many bumps in the road, over $1000 in unnecessary cost, and lastly, I did not anticipate this.
All I ask is for help and a miracle at this moment of despairity. I have about a month to complete this goal, and am doing everything I can to make it work. I've just gotten to the point where it's difficult to do it on my own, so I know I can count on my friends and family. Thank you, and I love you all!
