Hunter Russell: Heart Warrior
Donation protected
Kaila and John welcomed their beautiful baby boy Hunter Lyle Russell on Friday, May 12, 2017 at Sick Kids hospital in Toronto.
Early on in the pregnancy, local doctors in Thunder Bay noticed that little Hunter's heart was enlarged and would require further testing in Toronto. It was discovered that Hunter had an extremely rare heart defect known as Ebsteins Anomaly and would require severe and immediate monitoring and intervention within seconds of being born. As you can imagine this was a parents worst nightmare. No definitive answers could be given and the future for Hunter was unknown.
So far this little family has gone through the unthinkable. Countless surgeries and procedures with many more to come. At just two months old, Hunter remains in the cardiac critical care unit with his mom and dad constantly by his side. He has made incredible strides so far and continues to defy all the odds. He is an adorable and curious little guy who is always looking around at his surroundings. He personifies what it means to be a fighter and it is incredible to watch him continue to strive past everything thrown at him.
Luckily the family is able to stay at the Ronald McDonald house near the hospital at a subsidized rate, however all living costs are solely on the family and bills back home continue to pile on. Unable to go back home to work at this time these bills are adding to the stress of the situation.
It would be amazing if we could come together to help lessen the financial burden placed on this new family. Any amount would be much appreciated to help offset some of the living costs associated with having to be in Toronto for an indefinite amount of time. Both Kaila and John are fantastic parents doing all they can to support their little heart warrior during the fight for his life.
