<div>Venezuela’s Voice in Oregon, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in the State of Oregon in March 2014, started as an initiative of a small group of Venezuelans in Oregon. The organization has grown steadily with the help of families, friends, and generous volunteers. This organization aims to provide opportunities for connection, empowerment, cultural awareness, and leadership, for the Venezuelans residing in Oregon and their communities. Building and sustaining a strong community of Venezuelans in Oregon is a primary objective of this organization, especially since the unstable political and economic situation in Venezuela for the past several years has become a major barrier for Venezuelans in Oregon to go back to their country to raise their families and contribute to the well being of their nation.

<div>The current economic and humanitarian crisis in Venezuela dates back eight years. Since 2014, over 6 million Venezuelans have left their country due to political turmoil, economic instability, and a chronic humanitarian crisis, the second-largest displacement worldwide, behind only Syria. In 2020, the United Nations published a report estimating that nearly one in three Venezuelans (that’s over 9 million people) was "acutely food insecure." This means that Venezuelans were either eating fewer than three meals per day or didn't know where their next meal would come from. In 2021, the Venezuelan government finally allowed the World Food Programme to distribute food aid there. Nevertheless, locally-based Venezuelan nonprofits continue to carry the most weight in ensuring food reaches Venezuelans. In 2022, the situation has not improved. Small private charities like Venezuela’s Voice in Oregon continue to send monetary and food donations to Venezuelan communities to close the gap.

<div>Since 2014, Venezuela’s Voice in Oregon has donated to 50 organizations in various Venezuelan states. These organizations include hospitals (for pregnant women, cancer patients, and children), elderly centers, specialized health care centers, community-based organizations, NGOs, and foundations. <div>These partners in Venezuela continue to ask for our help, and we will relentlessly carry out our mission of sending them humanitarian aid. But we need your help to ensure the medical supplies and hygiene products arrive in Venezuela. A large part of the aid we send to Venezuela comes to us as donations; however, shipping expenses are extremely high. Usually, the cost depends on the volume and weight of each box we send, and the price varies between $200 to $700. But that's only the shipping from Portland, Oregon to Miami, Florida. After that, we must pay for the shipping from Miami to Venezuela, which costs around $125 to $400. In the end, it can cost up to $1,000 or more to get donations from Portland to Venezuela!

<div>En Venezuela, el COVID-19 puso al descubierto la injusticia sistémica del país en sus sistemas de salud y apoyo social al mundo. El hambre aumentó, mientras que las disparidades en la inseguridad alimentaria se ampliaron. En 2020, las Naciones Unidas publicaron un informe que estimaba que casi uno de cada tres venezolanos (más de 9 millones de personas) tenía "inseguridad alimentaria aguda". Esto significa que los venezolanos comían menos de tres comidas al día o no sabían de dónde venía su próxima comida. En 2021, el gobierno venezolano finalmente permitió que el Programa Mundial de Alimentos distribuyera ayuda alimentaria allí.
