"Education is not the filling of a vessel, but the kindling of a flame." --Socrates

I am Ivy, a current student at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. I am an intern for a non-profit humane education institution. Seeing how the kids, even the teachers, were changed by humane education reinforced my belief in education and humanity.
I founded the program “Humaneness 101”, in which we want to teach workshops at educational institutions, start a short summer camp for middle school students, and have open courses and communication sessions with the larger community, in my hometown Hefei, as well as at some other educational camps, during summer 2015. Teaching will be conducted mainly by my team, with assistance from some local volunteers.
Humane Education draws connections to all forms of social justice and fosters compassion and respect for fellow peers and all living creatures. Please go to our website for more information about the project mission, plan and curriculum (www.humaneness101.com).

We've already settled with a camp host, developed the curriculum, and built up a supporting network. The biggest obstacle we are facing now is the lack of funds. School rental, field trip transportation, student insurance, teaching equipment, etc all require funding. We want to make the project accessible to students from all financial background so please support us!

If you cannot fund our project but are interested in joining us with your ideas, skills and initiative, please do contact us at [email redacted] or sign up on our website (www.humaneness101.com), and spread the word! Feel free to let us know if there’s anything else that you might want to know of us. We very much appreciate your time and contribution!
