Help bring awareness to human trafficking

At Capture Humanity, we have the united desire to document, bring awareness to, and ultimately prevent human trafficking. Our future vision is to create a documentary film "Women Rising"  that explores the role of technology in sexual exploitation, with the goal of advocating for the best approach and most effective solutions for adult women and adolescent girls. Technology and the internet provide tools that traffickers can use to locate, groom, and ultimately exploit their victims. Online resources such as open and classified advertisement sites, adult websites, social media platforms, and chatrooms—extending to the dark web—enable traffickers to interact with an increasing number of potential victims. 
 
This film will take a broad look at human trafficking in Maine through the lens of survivors: Selina Deveau and Cary Stuart. It will cover topics including the root causes of trafficking, its impact on survivors, recovery, and potential solutions to this massive problem. 

The film will provide law enforcement perspectives, as well, with interviews with district attorney Jonathan Sahrbeck and computer crime unit detective Glenn Lang. It will answer questions surrounding how the internet provides traffickers with enormous scope to seek out and groom marginalized individuals, how these sexual exploiters can scan social media for young, vulnerable individuals, and what tools people can use to keep themselves safe from trafficking.

By using film and photography to bring awareness and attention to this form of trafficking in an artistic, yet respectful way, we hope to:

– Empower other survivors;
– Engage with an audience to challenge common myths about human trafficking; and
– Foster a dialogue about the root causes.
