Hugs and Hope for Hudson

Donation protected
If you know Jay and Jessica, then you know that they are not ones to ask for help. They would help anyone if needed and would give their shirts off their backs to someone in need. I am creating this GoFundMe to help them with medical expenses, gas money, food, and bills. If you aren’t able to donate, that is okay, you can help by saying a prayer for Hudson.

Hudson was born with multiple, severe heart defects. Here is what Hudson has been diagnosed with and what they are looking to fix.

The biggest challenge is what is known as Double Outlet Syndrome of the Right Ventricle (DORV).  This is a heart defect that is present from birth (congenital). Normally, the heart is structured so the aorta connects to the left ventricle and the pulmonary artery connects to the right ventricle. In Hudson’s heart, both the aorta and the pulmonary artery connect to the right ventricle. Hudson also has a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) (an abnormal opening between the left and right ventricles), which is another heart defect that always occurs with DORV. The presence of these defects means that Hudson’s body doesn’t receive enough oxygen to his body and his heart has to work really hard to compensate (Medline Plus, 2019. Retrieved from https://medlineplus.gov/ency/article/007328.htm).

Hudson also has an Atrial Septal defect (ASV). This is an opening between the left and right atrium of his heart. This was beneficial to Hudson as it allowed more oxygen to reach his body. This was actually closing on its own, which is typically good, but in Hudson’s case his oxygen levels dropped significantly. On December 2nd Hudson had to have a cardiac catheter to re-open the ASV.

Hudson will need heart surgery as soon as he becomes strong enough. Unfortunately, the severity of the defects is unknown until the surgeon can actually visualize the heart during the surgery. The surgeon would like to be able to close the VSD, and switch the aorta and pulmonary vessels so the blood would flow normally. If the surgeon is unable to do the switch he will most likely do something with “bridging the gap” with artificial pieces. Hudson would then need more surgeries as he grows as the artificial piece would not grow with him.

Either way the surgeon is fairly certain he can help Hudson. Hudson’s surgery is tentatively scheduled for Friday, December 20th, 2019.

In addition to Hudson’s heart defects, the doctors also believe that he has Methylmalonic Acidemia (MMA). MMA is caused by methylmalonyl-CoA mutase deficiency and results in the inability to correctly process proteins. MMA is estimated to affect 1 out of every 50,000 to 100,000 babies born in the US. There are many forms of MMA, all of which have different causes and treatments. MMA conditions can range from mild to severe. The physicians believe Hudson has an organic acid form of MMA. Currently, Hudson’s diet is being regulated by using a special formula. He is receiving ½ special formula and ½ breast milk. Jason and Jessica have to wait 2 – 4 weeks for the test results to come back so they will know more.

It is unknown at this time how much longer Hudson will have to be in the hospital or how many surgeries he will have to have. Jessica has not returned to work and spends as much time as she can at the hospital with Hudson. Their expenses are accumulating. All donations will go towards their expenses. Any amount you can donate is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
