Hugo's Cornea Transplant

Hello, my name is Hugo Barrera, 46 years old, married and father of two lovely girls, my daughters are 10 and 13 years of age. At a very young age, I had an accident and lost the vision in my right eye. Eight years ago, again, had another accident, but this time my left eye was affected.

It happened while installing a door handle. As I was making pressure inserting the screw, the screwdriver came out of my hands and hit my left eye causing a laceration and later affection on the one I saw.

Since the accident and after three surgeries I have been using a hard contact lens to see and work.

Unfortunately for about a year now the corneal tissue has been deteriorating. The severe degeneration caused by the wounds and scars which open daily and causing me unbearable pain forcing me to remain at constant rest. Consequently, I could not continue to use the contact lens and because of this condition, I have not been able to work and support my family as I would like. I have about a year cloistered in my house without being able to help my wife in the house expenses.

The cornea has weakened so much that doctors have suggested that I have a corneal transplant to recover the health of the eye, but I realize it will continue to grow more and more scarred and there is the potential risk of contracting an infection and losing my eye. If I perform the surgery, over time, I can use a contact lens again. It would have a recovery time in absolute rest of 3 to 6 months.

We feel drowned by the economic part because it is a huge obstacle. I don't have medical insurance or have the financial means to perform the expensive surgery, pay the high-interest loans acquired previously, constant expenses of the expensive medicines and medical bills. Our car broke down and are not able to replace it since ours is not reparable. On top of all that, we have our daily house expenses.

The post operative will require been 3 to 6 months in absolute rest. During this time, my wife will have to take care of the kids, me and work which she sometimes has to miss due to my countless medical appointments or my constant unbearable pains. With her earnings, we are only able to pay for the basic necessities. We are living in a very precarious situation, and this is why I appeal to you for your prayers and financial support.

Mi nombre es Hugo Barrera, tengo 46 años de edad, casado y padre de familia. Tenemos 2 hijas de 10 y 13 años de edad. De niño sufrí de un accidente en el cual perdí la visión total del ojo derecho y vengo batallando con mi ojo izquierdo ya que hace 8 años sufrí otro accidente  colocando un manubrio en una puerta. Durante la instalación cuando estaba haciendo presión al destornillador que se me salió de las manos y se me enterró en el ojo haciendo una laceración afectando mi ojo izquierdo, que era por donde yo veía.

Todo este tiempo y después de tres cirugías he venido usando un lente de contacto rígido para poder ver y trabajar.

Desafortunadamente desde hace un año el tejido de la córnea se ha venido deteriorando y tengo muchas heridas y cicatrices que se abren diariamente produciéndome dolores insoportables, obligándome a permanecer en reposo constante. 

Por consiguiente no pude seguir utilizando el lente de contacto y por ésta condición no he podido trabajar y sostener a mi familia como quisiera, tengo alrededor de un ano enclaustrado en mi casa sin poder ayudar a mi esposa en los gastos de nuestro hogar.

La cornea se ha debilitado tanto, que los doctores han sugerido realizarme un trasplante de córnea para poder recuperar la Salud del ojo, sino me la realizo seguirán cada día más abriéndose más cicatrices y hay el riesgo latente  de contraer una infección y perder mi ojo. Si me realizo la cirugía con el tiempo poder usar  de nuevo un lente de contacto. Tendría un tiempo de recuperación en reposo absoluto de 3 a 6 meses.

Nos sentimos ahogados por la parte económica ya que es un obstáculo muy grande, y no cuento con seguro médico ni cuento con los medios económicos para realizarme la costosa cirugía, paga nuestras deudas por préstamos adquiridos a terceros que algunos tienen intereses altos, gastos constante de costosas medicinas y citas médicas.  se nos dañó el carro y no tenemos como comprar otro, ya que el nuestro no tienen arreglo y los gastos diarios de nuestro hogar.

El post operatorio será de 3 a 6 meses en reposo absoluto y mi esposa tendrá que cuidarme y trabajar a la vez, mi esposa gana solo nos da para pagar nuestras necesidades básicas y en su poco tiempo libre cuida de mí y de mis hijas, a veces no puede cumplir con sus trabajos por mis innumerables citas médicas o mis constantes dolores a veces sin insoportables.  Estamos viviendo una situación muy precaria es por esta razón que Recurro a ustedes por su oraciones y apoyo económico.
