The Preloved Project - Supporting Our Community

The Preloved Project was conceived in October 2020, when a local charity sent out an urgent appeal requesting clothes for a family in need. Having shared the request with our personal network, the response was significant and incredibly heartening. However, as most charities do not have ample storage, the issue became...where to keep it all?
As we found ourselves unhappily having to turn down donations from friends who had very much wanted to help, with items that we knew there'd be a need for imminently, it became apparent that a central hub where people could donate items was essential, allowing us to respond to appeals for help immediately as and when needed.
The reality is that if a family struggles to put food on their plates, then they will not be able to afford basics such as clothes, never mind toys or books to bring a little joy. It is heart breaking and we as a community have the power to change it.
We started using our own homes as storage and now, 6 months on, thanks to the love, generosity and support from the community we’re literally packed to the rafters! We desperately need proper storage. While initially our project began due to Covid; given the response, it has become clear that there is a real need for the service we are offering and we are committed to continue to help vulnerable families in financial hardship. A small grassroots recycling project between 2 mums with a little extra time on their hands, has become a long term project that we are wholeheartedly dedicated to and excited to develop into a more far-reaching, long term operation... because every family matters!
We want to establish our concept of a Preloved Community Hub: a storage facility and distribution point for the huge amounts of donations that we've been given and receive enquiries about daily, and a happy place where we can bring volunteers and vulnerable community members together to share.
The money raised will go towards:
- The new Preloved Project premises
- Storage Boxes
- Washing Powder, Fabric Softener and Antibacterial cleaning products
(everything is washed, cleaned and sterilised before being regifted)
- Batteries for toys
