My name is Edyta and I thought I’d be the last person to have to ask for support but ... I’ve just turned 25 and wasn’t expected to find myself in the situation I'm now in. A series of medical issues
started three weeks ago with suspicions of chest pains, shortness of breath, higher temperature, tachycardia, and increased heart rate which nobody could explain.
I’ve now been to A&E 9 times in the past 2 weeks and was initially faced with the comment that I’m anxious and I’ll be fine - without any further investigation apart from basic blood tests and - eventually, at my insistence - a chest scan which was both fine. Of course, only paracetamol was prescribed. After calling a specialist in Poland I requested a repeat chest CT scan but this was always refused saying I’m too young.
After repeatedly being discharged, feeling unwell again, and going back to A & E because I was so worried, on Monday I was finally admitted to hospital in London for an endoscopy but I again raised my concerns about chest pains & problems which were completely ignored & I was discharged.
I was back to the hospital on Thursday with oesophagus perforation suspicion (from the endoscopy) & this is the only reason why a CT scan was finally carried out. A Doctor then informed me that ‘chest ct was completely normal with some fluid found but that’s normal for some people’.
I couldn’t however stop thinking about it (having in mind that I have other chest symptoms) and asked a nurse to show me notes from the scan.
I was then devastated - as per notes - fluid in my chest was rather excessive and given other clinical histories, there is a risk of mediastinitis.
This is indeed possible as for the past 6-7 months I had a persistent ear/neck infection that nobody wanted to treat/diagnose. Doctors in the London hospital don’t agree with this diagnosis JUST BECAUSE the CRP is fine. However, all other symptoms would fit this potentially serious infection.
I’m now staying in the hospital as nobody can explain my chest pains. They keep on checking my ECG (10 times already and it’s fine).
However, I feel worse every day - with continued y tachycardia, increased heart rate, and fluctuating temperature. I feel very warm, with sweating, still have central chest pain - but symptoms are just being treated with paracetamol. I have been refused investigation & treatment for a potentially more serious infection due to insufficient 'indications’. But there has still been no definite confirmation that there is no infection that should be treated before it gets worse. Because of all hospital visits I now have also Phlebitis( at least diagnosed).
I have been in the U.K. as I l felt too weak to travel but I took the risk and transported myself by car to Poland.
It has now been 5 weeks away from work being unpaid, and all savings are gone due to expensive online & offline doctor appointments & consultations. (All done by myself due to COVID restrictions).
Further detailed tests and scans are required by doctors ASAP in Poland therefore I am truly in desperate needs, I have never asked for something like this, but ALL help would be tremendously appreciated!
