Kayla\'s Student Ambassador Trip
Dear friends and family, I have exciting news!!! I have been given the chance for an extremely special opportunity. I have been selected to become a People to People Student Ambassador to Europe this summer. I will be joinin a delegation of students my age on a 20 day educational program that will take us through England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands. Our curriculum will teach us about the history, culture, and the people of the region. After all, there is no better way to learn about culture than to experience it firsthand, through home stays and school visits. We will be led by experienced teachers and engage in a wide variety of cultural encounters and adventures. We will speak with a member of the British Parliament, visit Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London. Tour The Louve in France; where I will get to see the famous Mona Lisa painting in person, take in a thrilling view of Paris from the top of the Eiffel Tower, cruise the canals in Amsterdam, make chocolates in Belgium, hike in the breathtaking Swiss Alps, help protect the famous Black Forest in Germany, explore Anne Frank's hiding place, and honor the war's heroes at The Normandy American Cemetary and Memorial. Needless to say, I am incredibly excited. I am paying my way and raising money for the program. I have been working very hard. Some of the ways I have been raising money are starting my own dog walking/sitting business, selling candy bars, selling crafts at area craft shows, selling homemade dog treats and cat toys to neighbors, I plan on raffling off a night at Tara-a Country Inn, but I am most proud of my Phoneraiser Fundraiser. I am collecting cell phones and other electronics and turning them in to be recycled or refurbished. It not only benefits me but recycling helps the environment and the phones that can be refurbished will help bring communications to people who could not otherwise afford them. The total cost of my program is $7,000. Through all my hard work, so far I have managed to raise $1,500. I am excited about my progress but I have a LONG way to go!!!
