Bruce's Cancer Treatments

Hi, this is Liza, Bruce's wife. I hate asking for help! But this time it's for something we can't go without.

Bruce is in treatment for prostate cancer.  It's not life-threatening, but still quite a shock.  It's stage 3 but there's no spreading. So far, his numbers are improving.  If he has to have cancer, I guess this is the kind to have because the cure rate is high, around 98%.  So far it's exhausting, but we're grateful that he doesn't need chemo.

Radiation treatments will start 5 days a week in late October or early November.  We'll need 8 weeks of temporary lodging in Tucson.  The usual patient housing is closed due to covid and the 3 hour drive is too much for a cancer patient.  We can get an extended stay for $1200 a month but it seems to me we should be able to find something cheaper.  The Arizona Oncology Foundation gave us $200 for transportation costs.

Our maximum out-of-pocket amount for medical expenses is $6700 in 2020 and $7500 in 2021, so the total cost for treatments will be $14,200.  The radiologist will take payments interest-free if necessary, which is great because that'll be the bulk of expenses.  

The hardest thing for Bruce so far has been the frustration of not being able to do as much.  He's tired and foggy but stays upbeat for the most part.  Weight gain is making his back pain and asthma worse. Considering the circumstances, it could be worse.  Living close to family keeps his spirit strong.  He's been private about his health online, but it means a lot to him to hear that people care.  I'm looking forward to next Spring, when he's cancer-free.  He's looking forward to 2 years from then, when he can quit taking the pills that cause fatigue.  Please pray for his health and pass this on!
