There is probably no bigger challenge for me as a biker than this “Across Canada 2018” charity ride, in which 10 bikers will cycle from Victoria BC in the west coast to St. John's New Foundland in the east in June to August this year to raise funds for charity. Covering 7,515 km of uncharted territory in 10 weeks is absolutely daunting for me whose biggest previous cycling “achievement” was a 274-km week-long ride in Bhutan about two years ago. Not surprisingly, when I signed up for the event, which is to take place in June to August this year, my wife had doubts about my ability to achieve it, and I have to say I did, too. But this is an ultimate challenge I simply couldn’t resist, for the reason that, to use W. Timothy Gallwey’s example above, this “big wave” will certainly draw from me my greatest effort and enable me to realize the true limits of my capacities. In priming for and taking on this challenge, I am giving myself a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn to be a stronger, fitter and more courageous person.
And what better than to be able to show love and care for those in need through raising money for charity as well? As pledged by the co-organizers E&E Global Foundation and Vancouver Cycle Touring Association, the 6,000 Canadian Dollars raised by each participant will be used for supporting six charities in Canada and overseas so the event is for a very good cause. The charities to be supported are:
· Canadian Health Awareness Society
· Christian Zheng Sheng College
· D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) BC Society
· Developmental Disabilities Association
· Global Aid Network
· Vancouver Sowers Society of Education
