As many of you already know, 16 years ago, Lori Stautzenbach Sherrer faced one of the biggest battles of her life when she was diagnosed with Invasive Lobular Carcinoma.   With two young children, a husband she’s loved since adolescence, and hundreds of students who refer to her as their ‘favorite’ teacher, succumbing to this disease was not an option!  She fought this bastard head-on with treatment that included intravenous chemotherapy followed by a mastectomy with reconstructive surgery. Regardless of the side effects that relentlessly tried to defeat her (nausea, hair loss, etc.), Lori returned back to work much earlier than expected, if for no other reason than to teach her kiddos that Gitomer was, indeed, correct. “Obstacles Can’t Stop You. Problems Can’t Stop You. Only YOU can Stop You!” Lori WON the battle.  For ten years, she remained cancer-free.

 But this particular cancer took her victory very personal and returned with a vengeance.  In 2012, Lori received the devastating news that the cancer had returned.  This time, she was diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer Stage 4 that spread not only to her iliac bone but also her vertebrae. As a result, she has developed Congestive Heart and Kidney failure. Further, the cocktail of medication Lori needs to consume to remain stable has left her weak and lethargic.

 Lori felt she had no choice but to retire from the most challenging and rewarding career that she spent her life, loving. And, because she chooses to continue to focus on her life…Literally, and improve her health, she finds herself facing even more challenges from the insurance company that she’s paid into for nearly twenty years. 

 Each month, Lori is paying a higher premium and a higher deductible.  She is also paying for all medications not covered by Disability Retirement, out of her own pocket - - which, as you can imagine, is astronomical.

Many have inquired about contributing toward the healing process.
