From Liz, on having a home...

"Having one's own space gives one the opportunity to have a home and that's what living here has given me.

After living in a shelter, there's a transitional phase, where I have to reacquaint myself with the real world.
I can act in first person and take possession of what's mine on the ground that I stand upon.

My key to my door is a prized possession.
Shutting my door and then having the rythym of my own routine is a treat.
I can do everyday things when I choose- eat, sleep, shower, go out and come back or do nothing.
I can properly recycle waste.

Our shelter system is dysfunctional and cannot adequately address women's need. As a result, inescapable depression and stress are permanent occupants. Healing is not possible, and being here I am able to begin to heal and compartmentalize my thoughts and emotions. I can retake the space inside me to rebuild my world. I can reclaim my touchstones and have continuity. I have peace and symmetry. I can be slow. I can be in adult situations- yipee!"

Our goal is to raise $9000* to assist Liz in paying rent for up to 1 year to give her an opportunity to get back on her feet personally and professionally as a researcher and writer. This would provide $700/month for her to apply towards rent. Liz is welcome to remain here or find another place.  She receives $580/month, and would continue to contribute $300 towards her rent, leaving her $280 to cover her other needs.

Here's how you can help:

 - Please consider making a donation to the “Homefullness”  campaign through GoFundMe.

- Please share this campaign with your connections and networks. Together, we can support one person, Liz, who is doing her best to break out of the cycle of poverty.

 -  You will be able to follow the success of the campaign, and we  will update you as to how things are proceeding for Liz.

Thank you !
