Humane Society A.L.L. Fund for Lila

Tax deductible
Lila is a 5 month old Dachshund mix puppy who is full of life.  She loves to wrestle, play and cuddle with her foster siblings, and to chew on her Nyla bones.  She does well with other dogs, cats and kids and loves going on adventures in the car.  She sounds like the perfect puppy, doesn't she?
Lila was found abandoned on the side of the road in Madison County, KY in December of 2017.  She is being fostered by a volunteer of the Humane Society, Animal League for Life, located in Richmond, KY.  The foster mom soon noticed that Lila was not a normal puppy.  Everything she ate was immediately regurgitated. For several days, the foster mom tried different brands of food, different amounts and textures, nothing stayed down.  Lila was taken to a Madison County veterinarian who performed a Barium Swallow test and X-rays.  Lila was diagnosed with Persistent RIght Aortic Arch (PRAA).  http://caninemegaesophagusinfo.com/praa
This abnormality does not allow solid food to pass through the esophagus into the stomach.  As Lila was fed solid food after weaning, her esophagus stretched right above the PRAA causing a secondary disorder called Mega Esophagus.  Since her diagnosis, Lila has been on a strict liquid diet of high calorie food.  This once tiny puppy now weighs 11 pounds. Although she is thriving, she has to consume specially prepared liquid food and eat in an upright position to decrease the chance of aspiration, which could cause serious  medical problems or in severe cases, death.
The preferred treatment for this condition is the surgical removal of the stricture caused by the PRAA.  This procedure has the best outcome when performed between 2 to 6 months of age.  Lila is an ideal candidate, but we are quickly approaching the 6 month mark. Metropolitan Veterinary Emergency Services in Louisville, KY is able to perform this needed surgery.  The cost to the Humane Society, Animal League for Life to send Lila to Louisville, including the consultation, hospitalization, tests and surgery is $4,000.00 As soon as we raise the funds, we will get her to Louisville.  We are a 501 C(3) all volunteer charitable organization, and we exist on donations and fund raisers.  We sincerely appreciate any donation you can make to help us help Lila have a normal life.
