Our dad Jose L. Gomez Carrasquillo, also known as Tavo, peacefully passed away on October 3, 2020. He was surrounded by loving family members, in person and virtually via Zoom.
As a young adult, our dad served 2 years in the US National Guard in Puerto Rico and was an honorable Police Officer of the island of Puerto Rico. He was a hard-working man throughout his entire life. Even after retirement, he had a fruit stand that was called the Jibarita in Guavate, Cayey where he worked hard to continue supporting his family. He honored his parents, loved his 5 children Maribel, Marisol, Rosa Maria, Jose Luis y Gustavo, and his wife Julia of 56 years of marriage. He honored his parents by helping with the care of his mother Maria Carrasquillo and father Jose Gomez throughout their lives, until their passing. He was also was supportive of his siblings, extended family, and community. Our dad would always consider the needs of others over his own. For example, when dad’s extended family did not have enough funds for a burial vault. He gave up burial space, intended for his immediate family, to his extended family in order to ease their hardship.
Currently, dad does not have space in his own burial vault, after supporting many family members in their times of need. We now have an exorbitant fee to pay in order to create extra space in dad's own burial vault. In addition to this extra funeral cost, our family has to also cover the cost of transporting dad’s body to Puerto Rico from Pennsylvania. The tragic loss of our dad, combined with the unexpected exhumation expense is overwhelming for our Gomez-Negron family. Now, is the time to support our dad, who was an honorable son, brother, grandson, uncle, husband, father, great grandfather, a trustworthy friend, good citizen, and retired Police Officer of Puerto Rico. Please help Jose L. Gomez Carrasquillo rest in peace with his parents and relatives. Thanks in advance for all your donations, blessings to all.
