Iuans proton therapy appeal

As you may be aware Iuan has a benign growth on his brain.
He has had major surgery but they have only been able to remove less than 50%. He is still recovering from the surgery and due them having to leave part of the growth behind this sadly means he requires Proton Beam Therapy. This is currently only available in America at the moment, the UK will not have a machine until 2018, because of this the NHS will fund the treatment and flights but not the cost of living while out there which could get expensive as he may be there for up to 4 months..
Proton Beam Therapy is a type of radiotherapy. It uses protons, which are small parts of atoms, rather than high energy X-rays. This particular type of radiotherapy enables a dose of high energy protons to be targeted directly at the tumour whilst significantly reducing the dose to surrounding healthy tissues. This reduces the risk of the growth coming back and it is successful for many.
Radiotherapy has to be planned with great care as it can cause side effects, especially in areas of the body where the tumour lies very close to important normal healthy structures and developing tissue.
This can lead to side affects such as nausea, and can sometimes disrupt how organs function.
Unlike conventional radiotherapy, in proton beam therapy the beam of protons stop once it hits the cells, this means that Proton Beam Therapy results in much less damage to surrounding tissue.
I decided that we all need to help Iuan and his family, by raising as much as we can to make this journey as positive and fun as possible, Iuan needs to believe this an adventure not a nightmare :-)
Gemma has supported me over the years and raised massive amounts of money for charity so I think its about time we all helped her and gave a little back to help them on this last part of their journey to make that amazing
