ABOUT ME:
Greetings! My name is Michael Smith II. I am 20 years old and I am currently a college student majoring in Business Management. In early 2010, at Texas Children's Hospital, I was Diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia. Severe Aplastic Anemia (SAA) is a disease in which the bone marrow does not make enough blood cells for the body (also considered a blood cancer). For two years after my first diagnosis I battled with the disease. I went through vigurous bone marrow biopsies, took multiple medications, and ultimately recieved an Anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG) therapy. In 2012 after the 3rd treatment I was told I showed no more signs of the disease. In June of 2014 I started experiencing some of the same symptoms progressively through the beginning oof July when I nearly passe out leading Praise & Worship during church service. With some convincing from Family and Friends, I was taken to the emergency room only to find out the disease was back. I have exauhsted all of my ATG therapy attempts and I am unable to undergo that treatment again. The only other option I have is to undergo a bone marrow transplant. I am currently on the tansplant list and actively seeking a Donor. I also have to travel from the Northwest side of Houston to the Medical center 2 and sometimes 3 times a week to get blood and platelet transfusions until I find a donor. Due to the frequency of my Doctor's visit and the extremity of my fatigue, I am unable to work. The traveling expenses (gas,parking etc) along with the cost of living (food, bills) and waiting on insurance to kick in is a bit overwhelming for a young man unable to work and provide. I am asking for donations of any kind to help out during this difficult time for my Family and I. Anything helps! I also would like to ask for prayers from faithful believers because I know my healing is in my faith! And if WE have the faith GOD has the power!!!!!
