What happened:
My brother, Franklin Goodwin (Big Beans), went to the hospital on Dec 17th, 2017 with a headache and problems with speech. An MRI revealed a rather large growth - the doctors were not sure if it was a tumor or a cyst, so they decided immediate brain surgery was necessary. After removing 80% of the growth, the surgeon gave us the bad news, Big Beans has Stage IV brain cancer known as Glioblastoma (GBM). GBM is an extremely aggressive type of brain cancer. According to the surgeon, patients with GBM generally live a good 6 months without treatment and a good year with treatment. That being said, we have researched and found a few people who have survived and are cancer-free, many others who have lived 5 or 10+ good years, so there is hope with treatment. Because GBM has no obvious boundaries (the cancer cells look like the healthy cells), the cancer cannot be completely removed through surgery, so radiation and chemotherapy are a necessity. And, of course, there is always God's healing touch.
Since surgery:
Franklin has done rather well since the surgery as he is able to walk, talk, etc. He does have some problems while communicating and has no peripheral vision out of his right eye, but we will gladly take that at this point.
Franklin's son:
Franklin has a son, Connor, who is 11 years old. Connor lives in Oklahoma and would be able to see Frank when his routes took him through the state. Now, however, it will be very hard for Franklin to see his son.
Please help:
Frank did not/does not have insurance and we need help funding his treatment and anything along with it. At this point, we do not know the exact treatments (we will have a better idea Jan 10th) so we don't know the cost, but we do know without insurance we will not be able to afford it. Worse, he may be denied treatment. However, with everyone's help, Franklin will be able to afford some sort of treatment in his battle with this horrible cancer. The funds will be used for doctor's bills, radiation, chemo, prescriptions, and anything else strictly related to his fight.
