Howard's Fight Against Cancer

Donation protected
Many of you know Howard from work in the past... we wanted to update everyone on his current condition and struggle.

Howard was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. He grew up with only his mother and they moved often. He remembers being eight years old, seeing airplanes fly over their home, and dreaming of working for Delta Airlines.

By the time he was 19, he was actively working on jet engines for the United States Air Force. He bravely served our nation for four years.

He then accepted a job for Delta as a jet mechanic. He worked in the aviation industry for thirty-four years  after a brief period of owning his own mechanic shop. His experience spans from Pratt and Whitney, to EASW, EJM/NetJets, Rolls Royce, and Clay Lacey. Through these experiences, his colleagues saw his love for the industry and knew him for being a good guy... and a generous friend.

This June, as our industry suffers, Howard was laid off. He searched for months seeking employment in this industry to which he is so dedicated. The sun peaked out in September when he was offered a position as a general manager at Bohlke Aviation in St. Croix. He and his partner of five years, Marlene, were excited for this opportunity to live and work in paradise. Unfortunately, this opportunity was not the oasis they thought would be their refuge.

After visiting Frederiksted, St. Croix, Howard received his diagnosis of stage four kidney cancer. This disease finds Howard at the worst time as he, being between two jobs, does not have health or life insurance. His doctor at Danbury Hospital says he has at most a year to live. We are working on getting him a second opinion at Memorial Sloane Kettering; however, without insurance or the funds to pay the exorbitant medical bills, it is a struggle to even be seen.

In the last few weeks, we have seen Howard's health deteriorating. His lively energy and silly ways have stilled as he is in constant pain and discomfort. Moreover, he feels helpless in that he cannot afford the medical care that he needs and deserves. They were almost in paradise... but now are living through hell.

We ask that if you know Howard, or know of a story like Howard's, and have the means, to please donate in support of his medical and financial hardship.

Thank you so much for listening to his story and keeping an open heart.
