Sherman Voices for Change: Video Project with Sarah Hall

Sharon Littleplume and her daughter Sarah are two resilient Blackfoot & Sioux women who were victims of the 2017 wildfires in Montana. One of over 400 wildfires caused by the Yellowstone supervolcano "earthquake" burned Sharon and Sarahs home in Lolo Canyon to the ground in September.

I first met Sarah last fall when I started teaching at Sherman Indian High School every friday for an "Indigitize" workshop funded by the Media Arts for Social Justice class at my school. Sarah's creativity and drive were apparent as she often was the first to dive into the activities. Her way with words and passion for creativity and film inspired the other students as well, and I was so proud and taken aback by the powerful piece she created during this first workshop. (clip attached below). As I continued my involvement with Sherman Indian High School through my own independent study, Sarah continued to show up every day for class and stay after school to work on projects and further hone her talents in art and film. As a senior in high school she is doing college level work - each day we meet I am humbled by her drive and passion. All the while I was unaware of the immense struggles Sarah and her mother were facing at home.

Now homeless from the wildfires that destroyed their home, these women are feeling traumatized, afraid, and unsure of what will come next.

This traumatizing event has left this strong family of two feeling vulnerable, scared, and without a home.  It would lift a great burden from this resilient family if they were able to secure housing.

Any amount helps, but the 3,500 is simply for the down payment and first and last month's rent that is required for Sharon to secure housing. Sharon is living out of her car, something that is not conducive to her health. If you do not have the means to donate, sharing this page helps spread the word to those who can. Sharon is extremely grateful for any and all help.

At such a crucial time in Sarah's life - your donation could make a difference in Sarah's ability to pursue higher education. With financial and physical strains on her and her mother's living situation, Sarah is finding it difficult to focus on school work and her current situation will definitely affect her decisions regarding college. Please donate and help a family find a bit of security so that Sarah can focus on her immensely bright future.
