Housing for my homeless friend Tink

"Believe me, no one wants to be homeless." a friend of mine told me when I confessed to giving a woman gazing up at me with kind, knowing,  blue eyes a $10 bill. She was so grateful as I handed it over. She held my gaze long enough for me to know that I wanted to help this woman in a bigger way then leaving her with $10. I found her sitting with her dog on the same corner several more times before I had the courage to ask her, her name and if she would let me photograph her.

"They call me Tink, but my name is Trish, well Patricia." One day before this my friend Trisha had taken her life. A coincidence, maybe. I thought to myself. "Tink, for Tinkerbell?" She seemed like a Tinkerbell to me, but when I asked "Why Tink?" Her reply was "Tink, because I tinker." And so the story began. The unraveling of why a precious woman with kind blue eyes would end up on the street asking for money.  A long history of abuse unraveled and with that came the stories of care giving, a nurse by trade. A mother. She was jobless, homeless and hopeful. How was she hopeful after these stories she told me? How did her eyes still twinkle? How was it possible that she was still here on the corner of 8th and Main in Durango? How had she survived four winters living outside in the hills, nourished by Manna Soup kitchen? I was overwhelmed and appalled. How could I help this beautiful human?

That answer came to me last week when I passed her in her usual perch and stopped to catch up. "I am on the list for a place to live." She told me with excitement. "I am on a path to turn my life around."

Thanks to the a branch of the Volunteers of America (https://www.voacolorado.org/gethelp-southernco) The "Home Again Partnership" is a program designed to help people who are homeless because of a crime committed against them. They help provide financial assistance for 1-3 months to be in a home that then bridges homeless people into a subsidized housing program. Restrictions of federal funding do not allow the program to help with the deposit. I want to raise $300 for the deposit to help Tink (Patricia) get into a home, which will be at the End of Days Hotel. The Home Again Partnership will help with the first months rent of $500 and I want to fundraise to help with February's rent to be sure that Tink has shelter for the winter while she tries to reintegrate into her life and right to shelter and safety.

Please consider donating to putting  a roof over a person's Tink's head. I can't bare the thought of her sleeping in the cold.. Help me, help Tink!

Thank you for making a difference!
Much love!
