House Build in Mexico 2017

Donation protected
Hi All,

I’m Brittany Duke and currently a sophomore at Principia College. Have you been looking for a way to celebrate the holiday season and bless your neighbor? So has our family!  This December 28-30, we are going to build our fourth home with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in Tijuana, Mexico. It has been a huge blessing to be a part of these house build projects. Each has touched all of our hearts in numerous ways and the people we have met along the way have changed our lives. We have found that you receive even more than you give, so we’d love to invite you to join our group of approximately 20 on the build. Secondly, we are looking to raise money for the project.

Attached are some pictures and explanations of our past house builds:

Photo #1 - Shows the condition in which the one of the families we built for was living: dirt floor, walls of scrap wood, no windows, a blanket for a door, and a roof of scrap tin and tarps. I peeked inside and saw pots and pans hanging from the ceiling, very little furniture, and a family of four living in less square footage than my bedroom. A lump in the throat still arises when I recall that scene.

Photo #2 - Here I am with my dad on our second build

Photo #3 - It is inspiring what we are able to build in two days! (This photo was taken on our last build)

Photo #4 - The first wall goes up before lunch on the first day.

Photo #5 - There is something for everyone to do, including lots of painting!

Photo #6 - Shows the last house we built. It’s only 16’x20’ = 320 square feet, less than a two car garage and has no plumbing. But it has a concrete floor, wood siding, three windows, asphalt shingle roof, electricity, one interior partition, and basic furniture. But the best is that it is built with a whole lot of love!

The last photo, #7 - This is our prayer circle, which includes the family receiving their new home. Each person in the circle takes turns holding the keys and saying something to the family. The last person to speak and present the keys is the youngest—one year that was me!

The photos only tell part of the story, because the real transformation is unseen, in the heart of each individual who has contributed their time, effort, and money.

It takes about 20 volunteers to build a YWAM house in two days and these volunteers pay their own expenses of $345 per person for transportation from San Diego, lodging for two nights and food. We are in the process of recruiting these builders and you are welcome to join us!

Where we need immediate help is raising $8,000 for construction materials and basic furniture. Would you be willing to donate toward this house build?

Thank you for your consideration in making this the best new year yet for a very deserving* family!

Gratefully,
Brittany Duke

* Each family receiving a YWAM home must own their parcel of land, help construct the home, and complete a six month YWAM training program. This training includes household finance, home maintenance, family counseling, and a non-denominational religious component. Out of every 20 applications received, one is accepted. So they are very appreciative recipients…and we are too!
