(CORNELIUS) - William A. Hough High School’s choral music program has accepted an invitation to participate in the National Memorial Day Choral Festival from May 22-25, 2015 in Washington, D.C.
The “Howlin’ Huskies,” led by Director of Choruses Heidi Hickox, represent the only participating high school from North Carolina, joining students and adults from around the nation for what organizers call “a musical tribute to America’s veterans and honored war dead.” Under the direction of former Mormon Tabernacle Choir Director Dr. Craig Jessop, Dean of Utah State University’s Caine College of the Arts, the experience will culminate with a May 24, 2015 concert in the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, accompanied by the U.S. Air Force Band.
“I’m grateful that our choral students are committed to esteem those that have paved the way for our freedom,” said Hickox, whose choirs participate annually in the Cornelius Veterans Day Celebration. “We are honored by this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and look forward to the challenge that it will present musically as well.”
In addition to the Kennedy Center performance, Hough singers will perform at the National Archives to kick off the National Memorial Day Parade and lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington, VA. They will also visit important national landmarks around a series of three-hour rehearsals.
The non-profit Hough High School Choral Booster Club has launched a fundraising effort to defray at least one-third of the cost for each student participant. Your tax-deductible contributions, through this Go Fund Me campaign will receive a letter of thanks and required tax information in recognition of your support.
