Hospital worker trying to avoid Covid19 bankruptcy

December 22nd 2019 my Mother-in-law suffered a life changing brain haemorrhage. My wife was working in Dublin. When the pandemic of Covid-19 started to appear it became clear that travelling to and fro would not suffice so she took an approximate 60% pay cut in order to return to the UK, this allowed her to help her Mother and Father who are nearly 80. Rather than staying safely away from the dangers of the virus she actively sought work in a hospital in order to assist the country in these pressing times. She was quickly offered work at a Manchester hospital through an agency, where she is currently working as a Histologist (laboratory scientist). She also volunteered for redeployment in every way available to her, even volunteering for point of care testing at the Nightingale emergency hospital.  For this she was specifically told "we want to keep you here to cover [the departments] work" yet only a week later she was told that there was not enough work for her to be kept on and given 2 weeks notice.  Very frustrating considering that only one member of the department (2 were available for release) was actually able to attend the Nightingale and he appears to have been called in at late notice last Thursday - suggesting that they may be short. She therefore requested for the hospital to Furlough her as our only other alternative may well be bankruptcy. Her manager informed her that the hospital was NOT prepared to INVEST THE TIME to complete the paperwork to Furlough any members of staff.( Which I think is disgusting). She requested that this be reviewed but the hospital maintain that it is their contractual right to terminate her contract whenever they please therefore they do not have to Furlough her despite the fact that the workload has dropped solely due to the Corona virus. During this time she has spent up to a week at a time living in a camper parked at the front of her parents house in order to shield her father when a colleague was suspected suspected with Covid-19 infection. I haven't seen my wife since February because I am in Portugal at our small plot of land (we don't have a house in England, we try and live a very meagre life) where we live off grid in a very old and repeatedly repaired tent. I unfortunately don't have the funds to travel back the UK ,as well as with all the travel restrictions it has been very difficult for us. I'm sure that you agree that the above is an unfortunate read and I don't believe that it conforms with the current notion that the NHS is one big family, looking after its own. The government has provided a scheme to help people like my wife, who apart from the last 6 months has been a tax payer in England almost seamlessly for 24 years but the hospital does not appear to want to avail. This is leaving us in imminent danger of bankruptcy from debts that have mainly snowballed from trying to 'be there' for her mother.  If we get more money than we need we will donate to Headway Charity who help people with brain injuries like her mum. I hope you can find an interest in our story and really hope that you can find it in your heart to donate something, no matter how small as anything right now would be a huge help for us.
