Hospital bed for Lestat

Many of you are familiar with my nephew, Lestat, aka Buddy!  Here is a background for those who aren't...Buddy was born with a rare syndrome called CHARGE syndrome.  He is truly my little hero!  Lestat is what they call a spastic quadripelegic, meaning he will never walk, and although he can move his arms he has no fine motor skills in his hands. In his 10 years he has had multiple surgeries, such as, a leg amputation, cleft lip and palate, feeding tube, trach, hernia, cochlear, the list goes on and on.   This week he had another hip surgery, they had to cut off the top of his femur because he does not have a hip socket, prior to surgery he was in horrible pain due to his bones grinding.  When we were at the hospital we were discussing the real need for a hospital bed for Buddy.   Lestat is now 73 pounds and still growing!  He has to be moved from the bed, to the couch, to his wheelchair multiple times daily in order to meet his therapy needs.  This is getting more and more difficult as he grows, and is painful for him.  There is also risk in moving him often, he has a feeding tube, if he is being moved and the feeding tube gets pulled out it means a trip to the emergency room.  My brother Ben, and Lestat's mom Launie have worked so hard to give him the best life possible!  Our families have always pitched in to make sure he has everything he needs.  Over the years many of our friends and family have asked what they can get him for his birthday or Christmas, we have always said we will let you know if a need arises, for the first time, we are humbly asking for help from our extended family.   A brand new bed that will suit his needs is between $15,000 and $20,000!  We are looking at refurbished hospital beds that are adjustable, with an air matress and scale, this will cost between $5,000 and $7500.   Eventually we will get Buddy the bed he needs, but, with your help we can get it a little sooner!  If you can't, or choose not to help, we understand, but please share, send a positive thought his way, or say a quick prayer for his health!  Anyone who has had the pleasure to send time with this little guy knows he is an angel on Earth!
