Horn Mission Trip

Background:

Did you know that there are nearly three billion people living in poverty? They are hungry, have no access to healthcare, and cannot afford education, basic clothing or even shoes (World Bank 2008). Over the past few years, we have felt more and more compelled to help people get through these difficult living conditions. After careful prayers and research, we finally decided to step beyond our everyday comfort to lend a helping hand. So, from November 22nd-29th we will be heading to Matagalpa, Nicaragua on a mission trip with Shoes of Hope, a Samaritan’s Feet shoe distribution. Our goal is to bring a lifechanging message of hope, love, and compassion to each child or adult we provide shoes to.

Samaritan’s Feet:

Samaritan’s Feet is a non-profit organization that shares hope with children in the U.S. and around the world by washing their feet, giving them a new pair of shoes, and helping them believe that their dreams can come true. People without shoes face dangers like laceration, fungus, and insect bites that can lead to infection, disease, and even death. In many countries, children without shoes are not even allowed to go to school. This can open the door to slavery and unsafe child labor environments. Samaritan’s Feet believes that a new pair of shoes can help to prevent this and be a tangible foundation of hope to a person in need. In 2013, they participated in nearly five hundred events, distributing a total of 1.1 million pairs of shoes.

Matagalpa, Nicaragua:

We chose Matagalpa, Nicaragua because it is still suffering from the devastating consequences of the Nicaraguan civil war. As a result, many farm workers cannot make a living from what they earn and are forced to employ their children instead of having them attend schools. Nearly 50% of the population of this region lives in poverty, 25% live in extreme poverty, and the majority of rural households do not even have electricity or running water.

Shoes of Hope Mission:

In remote villages around Matagalpa, we will be serving as Shoes of Hope ambassadors, showing Christ’s love by washing children’s feet and giving them a pair of shoes and socks. In addition to meeting their physical needs, we will spend quality time with them, asking about their dreams and their lives. We will use this opportunity to encourage, provide comfort and share our hope.

We Need Your Support:

As we prepare for our trip, we ask that you pray for us and consider supporting us financially. We realize that not everyone has time in their busy schedules to go to a place like Nicaragua. Many of you have young children, work commitments, financial obligations and other real limitations. With your help, we will have all of the resources and support we need to help all of us make a difference in Nicaragua. In order to cover our trip expenses, we must raise $3,600 by October 31st.

Would you please consider a tax deductible donation to help these children in Nicaragua?

Thank You:

Thank you so much for supporting us through prayer and financial support. This trip would not be possible without the generosity of our friends, coworkers and family. We are so excited to share this rare opportunity to change people’s hearts, souls, and lives forever.
