<div>My name is Kevin Tager, and I’m organizing this GoFundMe for my friend Scott Swanson, who recently turned 53 and has terminal cancer. A devoted Detroit Lions fan, Scott &amp; I met nearly five years ago while we were playing an online game called Fortnite. Since then, I’ve also gotten to know his wife, Brandy, and their bright, wonderful 17-year-old son, Logan, who is autistic. We play together a few times a week to catch up and have a little fun. I’m inspired by all their family has endured, especially Brandy, who left full-time work several years ago to care for Scott and also helps care for her father, who was diagnosed with skin cancer two years ago.

<div>Scott’s cancer journey began in early 2014, when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Chemotherapy initially seemed successful, but the cancer returned by the end of the year. In mid-2015, he underwent a stem cell transplant that appeared to cure it. However, the chemotherapy took such a toll on his body and mind that he could no longer work and had to go on disability.

<div>Scott remained cancer-free until 2024, when he was diagnosed with high-grade invasive urothelial carcinoma in his kidney and had the kidney removed. Doctors initially found no cancer elsewhere, but less than 10 months later, it appeared in his bladder. The medication used to treat the bladder cancer nearly killed him, and he spent three weeks in intensive care before recovering. In May of this year, cancer was found in his liver, and two months later, it had spread to his bones. Doctors estimated that he had three to six months to live.

<div>I’ve helped Scott and his family financially as much as possible over the past few years, but they still need more support. Although they were reluctant to let me start this fundraiser, I believe in the kindness and generosity of others. Any contribution would mean so much to them. My hope is to ease their financial burden so they can spend their remaining time with Scott focused on one another rather than financial stress.
