Mike is an amazing man. He has never asked anything of anyone and is always the first to be there for someone else. He has worked every single day since he was 13, when his father became ill. Mike, at 13, worked to make money for his family, so they could pay the rent and went to school. Since then, he has worked 7 days a week for 12- 18 hour days as a very skilled handyman and home inspector. In July, he received devastating news and his health rapidly declined, preventing him from working. Now it is our turn to help him.
Mike has NON-Clear Renal Cell Cancer with two inhibitors. Only 20 % of kidney cancer is non -clear cell with the first inhibitor called chromophobe which only 5 % of all renal cell cancer are and he has the second inhibitor called Sacramatoid which only less than 1% OF RENAL CELL CANCER GETS AND IT is a very aggressive form of cancer.
This kidney cancer was the biggest mass the Surgeon has "ever seen" This Dr Paul Russo is a top Dr in Sloan Kettering. He had to be cut completely across abdomen for a procedure.
Doctors have also discovered 3 nodules in his lung.
His renal cancer metastasized to stage 4 which means it spread to the brain with two tumors. He went through Gamma Knife surgery on Sept 6 2017 and kidney removal surgery on Oct 4 2017. Mike started experiencing seizures on Oct 31 and as a result they had to put him back on steroids. He found out after this that his doctor should not have taken him off and as a result now is on anti- seizure medicine.
Mike cannot participate in any ongoing clinical trials due to the need to stay on steroids from his brain swelling and seizures. Sadly, renal cell does not respond to chemo.
His prognosis is poor, but his doctors are willing to try an immunotherapy drug through Bristol Meyers. This is where we need help!!!
Mike has worked full time since he was 13 years old to help his family and has been helping family friends and strangers ever since. He has helped so many people over the years and he is extremely talented. He has never had a break of opportunity and now he is so suddenly sick. He has no income since June. He has been hard working most of his life and now he is ill. If he can't get the medicine it can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and he does not have it to just get a chance to try. He just finished taking care of his mother and father in law who died of cancer as well as his mother in law who has just recently passed away.
Because of the procedures, cancers and seizures, he is unable to drive. The seizures and the effects of brain swelling has made his left side paralyzed in his face, leg, arm and hand. He has many appointments in Manhattan and it is costly just to park. His girlfriend is taking care of him and was working two jobs but had to take a leave from her 2 jobs to help Mike. Their income has been dramatically decreased.
Mike's income as a handyman and home inspector has stopped overnight.
With your generous help, we hope to be able to give Mike a chance at paying for his medical expenses to get to and from appointments, to help ease the stressful financial burden. Mike has found out he has to find other options for his treatment and there is no known treatments for this cancer so he will have to try to reach out to find other treatment options to see if he can find some way to prolong his life. Mike is strong and brave and deserves a chance.
