Neurological Treatment for Mckenzie

Donation protected
In February of 2012, I became the foster mom of the cutest almost 4 year old.  She was severely developmentally delayed, but very bright.  In just a few short months she was walking, talking and potty trained.  She came from an experience of unspeakable neglect and abuse.  Her struggle for survival began in utero and continued until her placement in my home.  Court documents and an assessment through the Child Trauma Assessment Center both provided insight into the deplorable conditions she had endured and the damage that was done to her developing brain. However they also showed strong resiliency factors and hope for healing.
In November of 2013, I adopted her fully as my daughter and continued to seek therapies, treatments, and strategies to help her overcome her rough start and fully achieve all God had planned for her life.  Upon entering school the full impact of her past began to manifest and the depth of her need became overwhelming.

After a year of struggling to find the right approach to helping her, she underwent an intensive neurological evaluation.  We discovered while she was quite intelligent, her brain development had been thwarted by her abusive beginnings and she was functioning at about a 2 ½ -3 year old maturity of brain development.  She is now 6 ½ years old.  She has severe deficits and needs beyond which simple time would provide her. We have discovered a treatment program that can help reroute and develop neuropathways in her brain that she missed during development.  Just as in stroke and traumatic brain injury patients, the brain can be healed and regenerated to restore function and a successful lifestyle.  The brains of children with my daughter’s history can find healing and hope.

With all treatment programs there is a cost.  One not covered by her insurance.  To give my daughter the chance she so desperately needs and deserves I need to raise $6500.00 for her therapy.  I would give anything to help her reclaim her full function and the ability to reach her full potential.  I am the single adoptive mother of two beautiful daughters.  My oldest, I just told you about and also a two year old adopted at birth and who seems to be developing appropriately and on schedule.  I am a school teacher, and as such, barely make ends meet for my family.  The added expensive of this therapy is more than I can afford for my daughter.

I do not want my limited means to result in missing this opportunity to help her overcome her past abuse and current deficits.  I want more than anything to provide her this treatment and watch her grow to be the smart, sweet, amazing person God created her to be. I want to see her grow into, not only an independent, contributing member of society, but also watch her impact the world for the better due to her resilience and hard work.

In order to do this, I must ask for help.  I am asking for any monetary support you can donate to her treatment.  It is my deepest prayer that many will join with me in helping give this beautiful girl a second chance to develop, learn, and grow.

We were not all meant to take in the broken and hurting…those alone and without a home, but we are all capable of supporting in other ways.  I ask you to seek your heart and pray if contributing to the restoration and healing of this amazing little girl might be a way you can help.  No amount is too great or small.  I assure you God will bless your gift and in turn bless my daughter so she can bless all she touches throughout her life.

This heartbroken, but hopeful momma thanks you from the bottom of my heart.
