Help Jamie Get the Rehabilitation She Needs...

It is often said that your life can change in a split second. For Jamie Feuer those words came true on a Thursday morning last December 1, 2016. That morning when she awoke and hopped in her car to go to the gym for a workout before work, she was happy and hopeful. So, she started out that sunny morning looking forward to the future. Little did she know that her future was about to change in a split second.

December 1, 2016
Singing with the radio to a Maroon 5 song, she approached the entrance ramp to the highway.

It was then that her life was changed forever. As she slowed to a stop at the red light, the truck behind her never slowed down and rammed her from behind at 65 mph. One second she was a happy, energetic, healthy woman looking forward to her workout, a day at work, and then dinner with friends….and the next second, she was a lying on freeway ramp with a partially-severed spinal cord fighting for her life.

The next thing Jamie remembers is waking up in a hospital bed unable to move and looking down at her was a team of doctors, her family and friends.  She was told that she had been in an accident which damaged her spinal cord and she was paralyzed from the shoulders down.  She was on a ventilator to help her breathe.  They told her she could choose to live or she could choose to die. Jamie chose life.

Jamie knew that she would face many obstacles…big obstacles. And she knew that she would need a lot of help from her family and friends. Still, she had hope.  Jamie wanted to be a miracle.

Initally, after the accident she was in the hospital for 2 months
and suffered through pneumonia and other major setbacks.

Then she was in multiple hospitals, rehabilitation centers and nursing homes and suffered many complications and limited recovery.
After her insurance coverage ran out, Jamie's dream was to move into her own apartment so she could regain her independence.  This required her to hire full time 24/7 caregivers to take care of her.

August 2017 to Present
Jamie moved into her own apartment in Irvine, CA, and has been in and out of the hospital more than 15 times in the last few months.
She does not receive badly needed physical therapy due to insurance restrictions – she is being told that this needs to be paid out of pocket.  She has to fight for her independence and her life each and every day.

But her injuries and illnesses are just part of the battle. The astronomical cost of 24/7 care has left her bank account and savings depleted and her limited income barely covers her rent let alone the therapy she needs to stay alive.

To top it all off, Jamie has been victimized by opportunists who know she cannot defend herself. Most of her belongings were stolen from a storage unit (they were placed in storage when she was in the hospital and could not maintain her apartment) and now, her credit cards, cash and jewelry were stolen from her apartment- which is open to the many caregivers she requires.

Despite all of the setbacks and pain she has faced over the past year, Jamie still has hope. She wants to leave the house to go for physical therapy and rehabilitation so she can get the care that she needs to improve her quality of life.  Her long-term dream is to one day be able to regain some function of her arms and legs and live independently on her own again.

Her current dream, however, is much simpler. She dreams of being able to move back to her hometown of San Clemente, CA and get te rehabilitation she needs.  She is currently looking to rent a small affordable cottage there near the ocean and bring her dog, Marley, and her cat, Hannah, home with her as they are currently being cared for by others.   Jamie's dream is that someday she will be able to walk Marley on the beach again.

You can help Jamie’s dream come true. We, Jamie’s friends, are asking for you to find it in your heart to make a contribution to help Jamie continue her rehabilitation and reunite with her pets.
