Hope for Christy Ann and Jappy

Ovarian cancer is a sneaky killer.   Its symptoms are very similar to common abdominal conditions so there’s less chance of discovery at an early stage. The next thing you know, it has already progressed. This is what happened to our classmate and friend, Christy Ann Bonbon – Pearson. She is 45 years old and the sole support of 13-year old John Arthur (nicknamed “Jappy“). Both of them now live with Christy’s elderly parents who are retired and living off government pensions.

While working in Riyadh, Christy went through what she thought were bouts of gastroenteritis. In 2016, she noted that her stomach had bloated as if she were pregnant and so got herself tested further -- she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. She came home to the Philippines for treatment and went thru a seemingly successful round of chemotherapy. However, by late 2017, the cancer was back with a vengeance and she went through a second round of chemotherapy which merely wrung her out. Unable to work since then, her hard-earned savings have been depleted and her medical expenses continue to grow. She is now undergoing thrice weekly homeopathic treatment while needing to regularly be hospitalized to have liters of fluids drained from her abdomen and lungs.

YET, Christy Ann chooses to LIVE, so she continues to fight…not just for her life, but for her son’s life. More than anything, she wants Jappy to have the future he deserves. Her future Engineer, her son, is all that she thinks of. She sheds tears when she speaks about Jappy, none throughout the invasive and painful procedures she undergoes. She is a picture of strength even when her heart is breaking. She is still, first, and foremost a mother. Her fear is that if she loses to cancer, Jappy will also lose his chance towards his dreams.

Last March, Christy Ann demanded to be released from the hospital, against doctor’s orders, to be at her son’s graduation from elementary school. She went in a wheelchair, barely able to stand, just to be with her son on that proud day. Jappy, a consistent honor student, is a kind, sweet child who has been by his mother’s side during her struggle. At the young age of 13, he is his mother’s source of strength.

We, her classmates and friends from high school, have come forward to find ways to help her with her medical bills. Not only do we LOVE our friend, but she INSPIRES US ALL. Christy’s fight is ALL OUR FIGHT. She fights not only for herself and her son, but, unknown to her, her fight also inspires the rest of us in our own struggles. Through this GoFund project, we hope to be able to raise enough to see her through her treatments and to also be able to secure funds for her son’s continued education.

Your donation will greatly help Christy Ann and Jappy. Though their situation looks bleak now, we believe that their experience of love and compassion from us will make the difference for the future. As we cannot provide all the support by ourselves, we pray and seek for generous souls who will help us fight with Christy Ann and Jappy.

Please help us help Christy Ann and Jappy.  Together, let us give them COMFORT and HOPE.
