Help Bring Hockey to Hopedale
You can’t drive down a street in Hopedale, NL without seeing a Montreal Canadiens and even the occasional Boston Bruins sign on someone’s house or in someone’s window. You can even find a real-time play by play for every Canadiens game on Edward’s Facebook wall so you won’t miss a thing. Unfortunately, the community of Hopedale could only watch hockey on TV because they haven’t have a rink of their own in almost 10 years.
Hockey has always been a big part of Cst. Dylan Bergmark’s life. He’s been on the ice since he could get skates on his feet, playing goal in leagues and on a pond nearby his childhood home. Armed with a shovel, a sump pump, and the help of the community and his colleges, they’ve turned a nearby pond in Hopedale and created a place where the community has been having fun spending time with their friends and family – and taking the occasional shot at a Mountie in net.
We were inspired to help when our friend Dylan mentioned that many residents couldn't enjoy the ice as equipment is in short supply. “They need skates, sticks, pads - everything!” There are more than 150 kids in the community and our aim is to raise $5000 to help purchase equipment so anyone who wants can join in the fun. We hope you'll join us in sharing and donating to help bring the joy of skating and hockey to Hopedale.
Our thanks to NTV for sharing this great story!
