The last time I altered my hairstyle was when I had a bob in year 2, and since then I don't think I've stepped inside a hairdresser for at least 7 or 8 years. Understandably, I'm starting to ache for a change.
I'm not the only one.
Every single day all around the world, people of colour are forced to contribute to a society for that is built off of their own oppression and we don't even thank them for it - whether it be earning less pay than the average white man, being brutally and publicly murdered for no defendable reason by the very people who are meant to protect them, or having racist abuse spat at them while grocery shopping - it's not just a thing of the past and these reasons are barely the tip of the iceberg. None of it is tolerable.
We've known for decades that it's time to change, but unfortunately, our countries' are led by those who refuse to say no to hate.
In June, I'm going to shave my head. I've set up this GoFundMe to raise money. Hopefully, in propelling the change I've personally longed for, I can give a bit back to change that needs to occur all over the world.
If you can, please donate. It's not enough to just not be racist, you have to explicitly and continuously be anti-racist. Otherwise, you have deliberately chosen the side of the oppressor.
