Hope in the Midst of Darkness

Friends and family, I come to you with a broken heart asking for help. My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year and has not been able to work for quite some time. For many years he was a pastor and a teacher, but his greatest role has been that of a relentlessly loving, supportive, compassionate father, grandfather, and husband. My dad believes the best in people, and because he believes the best in people, he had hope that the elaborate scam he was hearing over the phone was legitimate. Professional con-artists spoke with my dad for 3 hours and convinced him to give them $1,250 dollars, which was all the money he had in his bank account. In false hope for a miracle, my dad was robbed blind. He has been struggling financially since his diagnosis, but has never once complained, and has never once hinted to his children that he needs help. On the contrary, he is the most selfless man I know.

I am asking for $1,500 within the next few weeks to not only restore what was so maliciously stolen from a man who already has so little, but also to help restore his dignity, and his faith in humanity.

These are hard lessons to be learned, and they come at a high price. But I have to believe kindness begets kindness, and that a man who so selflessly gives everything he has to those he loves, will be repaid in kind.
