Meet the Horn family: Shane and his wife Jen are classic examples of what it means to live the American dream. Shane owns a local salon in Burlington while his wife Jen works inside the home raising their 3 elementary aged children. Shane is a sole owner operator at his store and works 60 plus hours a week making ends meet and providing for his family.
On October 11, while volunteering for a local church event, Jen began feeling sick and ended up suffering from a stroke to the back of her brain.
She was moved immediately from a local ER to the University of Iowa hospital to get the best treatment for her situation.
Jen is suffering from typical stroke issues and will be unable to function as a mother or be able to be independent for the next six months. While we are hopeful for her healing and progress has already been made, the next six months are going to be tough for the Horn family.
Three days after the stroke, during a heavy rainstorm, their basement pump failed which left the lower level of their home flooded while they were in the hospital.
Shane is self employed. If Shane isn’t at work, his salon is closed and he isn’t able to make money. The stresses and financial costs of running a business do not pause when a family is hit with tragedy.
Shane will be operating as Mr. Mom to care for their children and also working for the family while Jen heals over the next half year.
We need your help. Our goal is to raise enough money for the Horns to be able to survive and not have to add financial disaster and stress to their already stressful and shocking situation.
