Hope for Sunny Days

Donation protected
No mother wants to think about how she is going to survive alone with 3 of 4 kids still at home with no financial support and serious health issues, but that’s exactly what Sunny (Sunshine) is currently facing in 2020.

In January 2020 her husband of over 20 years and father of her 4 kids tragically died from a massive heart attack leaving Sunny widowed and broke at 43.

Sunny and her kids didn’t think life could get much worse, but fast forward just 7 months and more bad news was to follow.  Sunny was diagnosed for the second time with Parotid Cancer.  The first time was 7 years ago and after surgery and radiation treatment she was given the ‘all clear’ until now.

Since June 2020, Sunny has undergone 15 rounds of chemotherapy at the Gold Coast University Hospital and is now unable to work and relies on portable oxygen for every breath.  Sadly, the chemotherapy was unsuccessful and doctors advised Sunny to get her affairs in order.

Sunny and her kids are now not only coming to terms with the loss of their husband and father, but the realisation that they have an even bigger battle ahead – one which requires hope, strength and the support of other people.

Refusing to give up, Sunny with the support of her family and medical staff at the hospital have found a clinical trial conducted by the PA Hospital in Brisbane which Sunny has the opportunity to take part in providing she can come up with the funds.  At this stage the cost of the trial is well beyond her means.

We have set up this go fund me page to seek support to enable Sunny to take part in the clinical trial, and to find a way for Sunny and her family to maintain hope.  Hope for 4 kids to keep their mum around and hope for Sunny, so that she can see her kids reach their 18th birthdays and hopefully many more beyond that.

We would like to raise $20,000 which would cover the costs of weekly nurse visits, clinical trial and associated accommodation and transport costs, ongoing medication and REHABILITATION!!!.  If any funds are left over, they will assist the kids financially for any education and ongoing support.

2020 has been a tough year for everyone, but to go through what Sunny and her kids have been through is just heartbreaking and yet she manages to do this and still maintain a wicked sense of humour.  She is an amazing woman, a loving mother and an inspirational daughter.

My name is Alison and I have known Sunny since our mothers worked together at Pizza Hut when we were just 3 years old.  When I heard about Sunny’s fight, I offered to set up and manage a go fund me page on her behalf.  I wanted to find a way to help with her fight to survive.  Please help me help her – any support you can provide, great or small, would be greatly appreciated.  We can all help to make a difference for this amazing family who have already been through too much.
