Hope for Shanel Morgan

Donation protected
Dear Family and Friends,

I am writing this letter for my sister Shanel Morgan, in hopes to raise money to help fight her battle with cancer.

In 2013 Shanel was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer. Within 2 weeks of her diagnosis they had scheduled surgery in hopes to remove the cancer and started chemotherapy right away.  Until June 2014 she underwent treatments and after 6 months was able to start living her life again.

Shanel was “cancer free” until May of 2016 - she was diagnosed again…the cancer had metastasized and gone into her abdomen. She has undergone chemotherapy for a year – in the summer of 2017 they stopped chemo to try and give her body a break as the chemo was starting to take its toll on her body. The tumors hadn’t gone away, but were ‘stagnant’ at the time, so doctors felt it was ok to give her a bit of a break. It has been very hard for her the last few months. The tumors are now spreading into her intestines & colon and giving her great pain and discomfort. The doctors/specialists have informed us that surgery is not an option to remove the tumors. It poses too great a risk that she may not survive. Our only hope is to combat the tumors with chemotherapy again and after other research we have done, the doctors have also agreed that it is ok for us to try alternative treatments. Despite all of this and what Shanel has gone through, she is still fighting with all her might knowing that we still have hope. She refuses to give up which is a true testament to her will and dedication to her family.

My family, we are asking for your help. This is our only hope to try and combat the tumors and to try everything we can to keep the tumors from spreading and to give Shanel the best quality of life – a longer life which she can spend with her family; her common-law husband Gord, her 3 children and 8 grandchildren.

Shanel, since being diagnosed again, has not been able to work for over a year and is on a fixed income. The Integrated Health Unit came recommended to us, so we’ve researched and consulted with them for Shanel’s treatments. The alternative treatments are not covered by Medical Services, so we need to raise funds as the costs are high. Her first treatment is to start December 12, 2017 and she will undergo a series of treatments which include Hyperthermia treatments, intravenous therapy and injections -  in hopes for success. Funds raised will go towards her treatments and medicines.  The goal to raise for her is $20,000.

Our plea is urgent. Shanel's situation is very close to palliative care, so we are very concerned if we are not able to get her the treatment she needs as soon as possible.

Every little bit helps, and is appreciated as it all helps us to achieve our goal for Shanel.

Our family thanks you for taking the time to read our story.

Much Love,
Sylvette and family
