Hope for Peritoneal Cancer
Do you want to help me make a difference? I'm raising funds for Bowel Cancer Australia and Peritoneal Cancer. In December, I plan to walk 10 kilometres with my loved ones.
My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer in 2021, and she underwent surgery to remove half of her colon as well as 12 chemotherapy treatments. Fortunately, she was cancer-free at the time; however, in July 2023, my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 peritoneal cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy and awaits surgery in 2024.
Bowel Cancer, also known as colorectal cancer, is one of the most common forms of cancer, impacting both men and women. Of those who are impacted by bowel cancer, 5-10% of people will have the cancer spread to the Peritoneal, which has high mortality rates due to limited research conducted within the field. There are only three surgeons in the whole of Australia that can complete the Peritoneal surgery and are still trialling their treatments.
Any contribution is greatly appreciated and will be directed to Bowel Cancer Australia. I want to give families and individuals more opportunities for laughter and quality time together.
