Hope for Little Delilah

On April 21st, my brother J.R. Nimmo and his wife Rebecca were at the Bowling Green Medical Center. Rebecca was admitted for having gallstones that had caused pancreatitis and other related issues. However, during this already stressful and unplanned emergency, Delilah (their most recent daughter, born roughly 2 weeks ago) began acting strange. She couldn't keep food down and was starting to act very lethargic. They choose to bring her to the ER, where they then proceeded to do a multitude of tests. One being a spinal tap, where she came back positive for group B Strep. This caused a very serious and life threatening Meningitis infection. The staff instantly opted to have her sent via helicopter to the more equipped and specialized Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. Where upon arrival she was met with several skilled doctors immediately evaluating her situation. As of this moment, she is on full life support. Breathing tube, feeding tube, everything. The Meningitis has wrecked havoc on her poor little body, especially her brain. As of now it's caused a multitude of strokes throughout most of her brain including some deeper parts of the brain as seen on an MRI and she has been and is still having seizures. Through the MRI the doctors we're able to see that she's had a lot of strokes though couldn't see the exact effects they will have on her currently or in the future. However they could see that a lot of damage has been done. She's been unresponsive on several occasions. Her pupils are unevenly dilated and unresponsive to light an sign that she has brain swelling. There is high likelihood that she will have developmental disorders from the trauma this has caused her brain. Though not all hope is lost as her little mind is still plastic and capable of some if not a lot recovery. The treatment is to give her antibiotics to fight off these infection, and hopefully soon keep further damage from occurring. All while keeping her stable and limiting her pain. However this could take weeks, a month or so even. During all this stress and hardship, Rebecca has been going through surgery to have her bile blocking gallstone and then gallbladder removed and J.R. has remained at Delilahs side. This sweet family has been pulled at every end as of late. And we friends and family have been doing every single thing we can, giving them all the love and support they need. The family is covered by insurance, but it will only do so much. Both parents are out of work as a result of this tragedy. We ask for any help you feel called to provide. We know the prognosis is sadly a mystery at the moment. But one thing is for sure, this is a heartbreaking and costly tragedy. And that insurance only goes so far. Any donation would be greatly- and I can't emphasize this enough- greatly appreciated. This beautiful family has a long road ahead and they will need all the love and support possible.
