❤️ A Heart for Nurse Kinsley – A Mother, a Nurse, and a Fighter

Hi, my name is Kinsley, and I never thought I’d be sharing my story this way — not as a nurse, but as a patient, a mother, and someone holding on with everything I have.

For over 15 years, I’ve cared for others. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, I’ve held hands in hospital rooms, comforted scared families, and walked alongside people during their toughest moments. But now, I’m the one facing that journey.

In 2018, I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure at just 32 years old. My life changed in an instant.

In 2020, I underwent a major surgery to receive a battery-powered heart pump (LVAD) that’s kept me alive ever since. Every day since then has been a gift. But my heart has continued to weaken, and it’s now functioning at just 6%.

I’m currently in the hospital at Houston Methodist, listed as a top-priority for a heart transplant. I will remain here until a match is found.

As I write this, I’m thinking about three faces that give me strength every day:
	•	Makiya (18) – my firstborn, who just graduated high school with honors and is headed to nursing school, walking the same path I once did.
	•	Kennedy (13) – my gentle middle child, navigating adolescence while trying to hold our family together.
	•	Aadon (5) – my little sunshine, who still asks when I’ll be able to come home and play.

They don’t understand the full weight of what’s happening — and I pray they never have to. But they know their mommy is sick. And they miss me. I miss them too — every minute of every day.

This journey has already taken so much. I also recently lost my mother, Minister Patricia Fontenot, to pancreatic cancer. She was my rock, my support, and my caregiver. Losing her during the hardest chapter of my life has been almost unbearable.

Now, I’m humbly asking for help — not just for me, but for my children, who deserve stability, care, and peace in the middle of this storm.
